Shares in a solar power company, First Solar fell over 20 percent in early trading Wednesday after the firm lowered its sales forecast for 2011. The company is a leading maker of thin-film solar panels, and also a developer of solar power projects, predicted net sales in 2011 of $2.8 to $2.9 billion. That's down from earlier projections of $3.0 to $3.3 billion. Lower sales were due to delays in its projects caused by weather and other factors. The new robust project pipeline will help First Solar generate a significant amount of money in 2012.

Reflections On First Marking Period
In the first marking period of Web 2.0 I learned a lot more about blogging, and new technology in the world. For example, we had tech articles due each Friday. This taught me a lot about technology. Especially listening to other peoples tech articles. I learned more about cars, video games, blogs, phones, and even devices that'll help make the world better. Our project of the first marking period was to make a survey with a partner, and ask questions about social networks, and learned peoples dislikes and likes in social networks. Then my partner and I made a power-point presentation about a social network we would make and the features it would have. My social network was called iBook. The main purpose of our website was to let people meet other people with the same interests in books as them.
My Weekend
This weekend my school had four days off of school because of a teachers convention. During the weekend I went to the movies and watched the movie "In Time" with my friends. My sister came home from college on Friday, and stayed home for 2 1/2 days. I also went ice skating with my friends in Hackensack.

Tech Article 10-20-11 (Robotic Sailboats clean oil spills)
Last year 11 people died, and 17 were injured because of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The oil spill was known as the worst human error ever made, and worst oil spill accident. By the time the oil spill was over 4.9 million barrels of oil was left in the Gulf of Mexico. Cesar Harada wants a similar event to occur like this ever again. He wants to build an open source oil cleaning robot, Protei. The equipment the US Coast Guard used was only able to clean 3% of the oil spill. Cesar is hoping to use Protei to clean up the Gulf of Mexico, and keep the workers safe from the toxic mess. Video

Tech Article 10-14-11 Sidewalk that creates electricity.
In London, England's largest urban mall they're using paving slabs that transform the energy from peoples footsteps into electricity. This is how the mall will be powered. The paving slabs are made up of recycled rubber, "PaveGen." When stepping on the "PaveGen" it creates bursts of electricity to nearby appliances. The slabs can also create three days worth of energy in an on-board battery. So far there are rumors saying that there will be 20 tiles scattered along the central crossing between London's olympic stadium and mall. PaveGen is not sharing the mechanics they use for converting absorbed kinetic energy

An entrepreneur, Roger Davey is making an invention that takes advantage of the fact that heat rises. He wants to capture and control hot air to power cities. Davey wants to build a solar updraft tower. The tower would be 2,600 feet tall, in the Arizona desert. The tower would spin 32 turbines creating mechanical energy, which generates and converts to electricity. The company he works for says he can create 200 megawatts of power. This would be enough to power 100,000 homes. This is different then solar power because it also works at night.

Kindle Touch-Tech Article
The new Kindle Touch will be the first touch screen kindle. It will cost $189 with 3G, or $139 if you only choose to buy it with Wi-Fi. The Kindle Touch is adding a capacitive layer to the screen, because the screen prevents there to be glares. This way people can use the Kindle Touch in direct sunlight like a printed book. The Kindle Touch has infrared sensors, which are put on along the edges of the screen. It's used to detect when people are touching the screen. This also lets users use different parts of the screens at the same time.
